 CVD Diamond Applied to B&W Diamond Treble

 B&W diamond treble is by no means just an exaggeration or grandstanding call, because B&W uses a real, 100% pure diamond composition of the diaphragm. Of course, the raw material used to make this diaphragm is not natural diamond but the industrial diamond that is from professional production plant using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) . The manufacture of diamond dome tweeter is a long-term research project of B&W, which aims to better understand the relationship between the drive unit and the actual sound quality, rather than simply to pursue the frequency response. This study is described in detail in the B&W 800D development plan as well as the key is that B&W believes that the splitting vibration frequency of the tweeter can be pushed to a greater extent without reducing the size of the tweeter diaphragm or adding auxiliary tweeter , to ensure that the human ear can be heard within the frequency band below 20kHz to obtain the ideal frequency response. Now, the B&W diamond dome tweeter's splitting vibration frequency is achieved from the past 30kHz of the aluminum treble to 70kHz of the CVD diamond diaphragm. After B&W engineers’ audition, the diamond treble’s performance will affect the sound reproduction performance of each sides. However, the most prominent is that it creates an absolutely transparent and incognito effect in the midrange area.

Loudspeakers of 26mm in diameter with diaphragm made of CVD diamond is up to 70kHz, more than 2 times of Al, and 40% higher than that of Be.
