Electrochemical Application of Boron-doped Diamond Film

  Boron-doped diamond film(BDD)is a new type of carbon-based electrode material with good electrical conductivity,wide potential window,low background current,low adsorption,anti-pollution,and high chemical stability(it does not react with any acid-base medium at room temperature),and is not easy to scale.BDD is an excellent electrochemical electrode materialwitha wide range of application prospects.

  Sewage treatment


  In electrochemistry,the BDD film electrode has a wide potential window in both aqueous and non-aqueous electrolytes.The BDD film electrode has high current density,very low background current value and good chemical inertness in the electrochemical reaction.The surface is not easy to passivate,has strong anti-pollution ability and anti-poisoning ability,and shows a long service life in high-strength environment.In electrochemical treatment of organic wastewater,BDD film electrode has the best oxidation capacity,the strongest corrosion resistance and anti-pollution ability,the widest potential window and the highest current density comparing different electrodes such as graphite electrode,noble metal electrode and metal electrode.


  Detection of trace organic compounds


  The surface inertization of the BDD film electrode and the wide chemical potential window make it a good electrode material for determining the composition of organic compounds with simple current measurement.Diamond electrodes exhibit high sensitivity and reproducibility in the detection of trace amounts of compound components.By means of flow injection electrolysis analysis technique,the detection of trace components was successfully achieved by the current measurement of high boron doped diamond membrane electrode in aqueous medium.Diamond electrodes can also detect DNA,and heavy metal ions,azides in the ppb range.

  Amperometric biosensor


  As the substrate material for current-type biosensors,surface flatness and uniformity,controllability of surface properties,thermal and chemical stability,ability to immobilize biomolecules,excellent electrochemical properties,and biocompatibility are required.BDD film electrode is superior to other conventional electrodes and meets the above conditions.It is expected to be an ideal substrate material for a new generation of current-type biosensor.


  Electrochemical preparation of ozone has the advantage of higher concentrations than those produced by methods such as photochemistry.As an electrode material,BDD becomes a semiconductor after doping from an insulator.Activation at a high anode potential to remove contaminationof the electrode surface,without processingby grinding and polishing to achieve regeneration of the electrode activity,can effectively overcome the passivation phenomenon caused by the adsorption of degradation intermediates on the electrode surface and has a long service life.In addition,BDD film electrodes have a low,stable background current that is an order of magnitude lower than that of a freshly polished glassy carbon electrode.Therefore,the voltage required to generate the same redox current is small,and the low energy consumption makes it the best third-generation BDD electrode.
